The chinchillas on this page have already found furever homes through ForCHINate Chins! Mercedes and Lexus Mercedes and Lexus are both standard gray females. They are sisters from the same litter. Mercedes and Lexus are about 2 years old. Their former owner believes their birthday is July 23, 2003. Lexus and Mercedes were given up because their owners' husband has bad asthma and no matter what they did as far as dust baths, etc., he still suffered from attacks. They both loved them very much and it was a very hard decision for them to make, but they felt it was the best for them as well as the chins. These girls are just about fearless. They grew up with a rottweiler, and they have no problems with my cats (in fact they play with them through the cage). Mercedes likes to take dust baths in the bathroom sink (even though there is no dust in it), and tries to drink from the faucet. They both love running around the house and getting cheek & belly rubs. They are both pretty laid back and will let you hold them without trying to get down. In the photo of the two girls together, Mercedes is on the left, Lexus is on the right. The left individual photo is of Mercedes, the right is Lexus.
**Mercedes and Lexus were adopted on June 29, 2005 and are having a great time getting all the attention that they deserve as well as playing in their HUGE Chinchilla Mansion!! **Due to family reasons, Mercedes and Lexus had to come back to us on August 6, 2006. They are now available for adoption again! Anyone adopting this pair will get 2 wonderful chins for pets!!! Updates to come as they happen! **Update:August 19, 2006: Mercedes and Lexus have again found a new, wonderful home and are enjoying all of their play time that they get every day!!
Jackie Jackie is here because her previous owner had an allergy to her that developed after about a year of having her. She wasn't able to give her the "out" time running around that she needed anymore and felt it was best to find her a good home where she will get the love and attention she deserves! She did love her very much, but felt she deserved better. Jackie is mellow, yet playful! She likes to sit in the corner of her cage and just look out sometimes. She also likes to have her cheek rubbed, and loves to re-arrange the furniture in her cage a lot! She flips things over, then flips them back, like she is an interior designer going for the "right look"! She LOVES her run around time outside of her cage. Jackie's distinguishing characteristics are her large ears and very long tail! She is a cutie!!!
**Jackie was adopted on August 17, 2005 and is now living in a home where she will be adored and loved by the entire family. She will be the only chinchilla, so she will get tons of chinnie toys and attention (just the way she likes it!!).
Gizmo, Lady, Squeak, and Nibbles Gizmo, Lady, Squeak, and Nibbles came to ForCHINate Chins because their owner was moving back home. Her parents don't have a lot of space, and they have a dog the they didn't feel would do good with them, so they felt it would be best for the family to come here and stay with all the other chinnies! Lady Lady came to ForCHINate Chins along with Gizmo, and their babies (Squeak and Nibbles). Their owner is moving back home, and her parents didn't have the space for the chins, they were also afraid that the dog wouldn't do well with them. Lady loves her out of the cage play time and taking dust baths. Her favorite treats are shredded wheat and raisins. Lady was a little skittish when she got here, and there is a possibility that she was pregnant again when she came to us, but we have been handling her daily, and she is doing very well now. We are also monitoring her weight to see if she is indeed pregnant. She will not become available for adoption until we are sure she is not pregnant. **Lady is not pregnant! She is ready to go to her new forever home now!**
**Lady has found her new furever home at Chin Care with Sally. She has also been given a new name (Lilly) and is living with Lavender (formerly known as Penelope--See 7 Neglected Chins) . She left on August 16, 2006 to go spend her life with the other girls at Sally's wonderful house!! Squeak (Houdini) Squeak came to ForCHINate Chins along with his mom (Lady), his dad (Gizmo), and his brother (Nibbles). Their owner is moving back home, and her parents don't have the space for the chins, they were also afraid that the dog wouldn't do well with them. Squeak loves to play outside of his cage, and loves rolled oats, and apple sticks! He has tons of energy and gets along great with his brother, they love to play together! Squeak's date of birth was May 21, 2005.
**Squeak was adopted on August 21, 2005, and is now living with his new friend and cagemate Moses! They get along great and have become the best of friends. **Update: Squeak and Moses have come back to ForCHINate Chins due to family problems. They arrived on February 5, 2007 and were adopted almost immediately! They went to their new furever home on March 5, 2007! Pics of the boys all grown up are coming soon!! Gizmo Gizmo came to ForCHINate Chins along with Lady, and their babies (Squeak and Nibbles). Their owner was moving back home, and her parents didn't have the space for the chins, they were also afraid that the dog wouldn't do well with them. Gizmo is a loving boy and will follow you around during his out of the cage play time. He loves shredded wheat, rose hips, and of course....raisins! Gizmo is believed to be approximately 1 year old.
**Gizmo was adopted on September 21, 2005 along with his son, Nibbles. They will be spending the rest of their lives together as father and son getting spoiled (as all chins should be) in the Akron Zoo's animal enrichment program! Nibbles (George) Nibbles came to ForCHINate Chins along with his mom (Lady), his dad (Gizmo) and his brother (Squeak). Their owner is moving back home, and her parents don't have the space for the chins, they were also afraid that the dog wouldn't do well with them. Nibbles loves to play outside of his cage with his brother, and he loves apple sticks and rolled oats! He is a cutie!!! Nibbles' date of birth was May 21, 2005.
**Nibbles was adopted on September 21. 2005 along with his father, Gizmo. They will be spending the rest of their lives together as father and son getting spoiled (as all chins should be) in the Akron Zoo's animal enrichment program!
Winter and Grey Girl Winter (Winnie) and Grey Girl (GiGi) came in along with Ash and Isabell because their previous owner had cats and they just didn't get along. Their previous owner actually rescued them herself after they had been dumped at a construction site in her area. Winnie and GiGi are a great pair, love being together, and will do just about anything to get a piece of shredded wheat! Their favorite thing to do during their outside of the cage time to to take long dust baths! In the pictures below, Winter is on the left, and Grey Girl is on the right. Beige chins do have red eyes, though I did my best at correcting the picture so they are not so distinct!
**Winter and Grey Girl were adopted on November 15, 2005 by a wonderful family that will take care of them forever! They are having a great time in their new cage, and especially on their new wheel. They too, are being spoiled as every chin should be!!
Sancho and Roo Sancho and Roo came to ForCHINate Chins from the coordinator of the PHFR (Pet Homes For Ranchies), or they would have otherwise been pelted (killed for their fur). These 2 boys are sweet hearts considering they have had limited human interaction. We are working with them every day and they are becoming more and more social. They are quite curious of their new surroundings, and are starting to look for attention when we are near. The boys also will take treats from us now, so they are becoming more trustworthy of humans. They also don't mind being held for short amounts of time. Every day that they are here, they become less scared of humans and more and more willing to interact! In the pictures below, Sancho is on the left, and Roo is on the right. **With a couple months of lots of love and attention, Sancho and Roo are doing very good! They are so much fun to play with and Roo loves being held. They both look forward to play time and their nightly shredded wheat!**
**Sancho and Roo were adopted on January 3, 2006 and are having a great time in their new home where they are loved as much as they were here!!
Mickey and Jerry Mickey and Jerry came to ForCHINate Chins from the coordinator of the PHFR (Pet Homes For Ranchies), or they would have otherwise been pelted (killed for their fur). Mickey and Jerry are quite social considering they haven't had much human interaction in their lives. Neither of the boys mind being held, and they both will take treats from our hands. Mickey has began to come to the corner of his cage when we come in to their room to give out treats and wants his head rubbed. Jerry Loves his wooden house and likes to spend time inside of it looking out through the "skylight" Both of these boys are just so pretty and get along great together. With each day that passes, these boys are becoming more and more trusting of humans! In the picture below, Mickey is on the left, and Jerry is on the right. **These two beautiful boys are so fun to watch play! Mickey is the leader and Jerry follows. They both love their wheel, out of cage play time, and of course, dustbaths!!**
**Mickey and Jerry were adopted on January 3, 2006 and now are in a very loving forever home where they are having a wonderful time, they are missed by us dearly!!
Betsy Betsy came to ForCHINate chins because her previous owner got a new dog that didn't get along with her. They thought it would be best for her to come here to live so she can play outside of her cage as she loves to do. Betsy is 6 years old and has a great personality, she loves shredded wheat and runs to the corner of her new cage when she sees me coming with it. Her favorite play time activities are dust baths, and more dustbaths!!
**Betsy has been adopted, and she now has a new friend named Ixee. They get along like they have been together since day one and are having a great time together!! The spelling of her name has been changed to Betsee.
Ash and Isabell Ash and Isabell came to ForCHINate Chins along with Winter (Winnie) and Grey Girl (Gi Gi) because their previous owner had cats and they just didn't get along, so she thought it would be best to bring them here. Ash and Isabell are both standard grey females, they came in as a pair and they just get along great. They both love to run outside of their cage, and they especially love rose hips and shredded wheat! They would like to be adopted as a pair, considering they have been together so long and get along so well. Both girls love to have their heads rubbed, and when they see someone coming to the cage they scurry over to get petted and beg for treats! In the pictures below, Ash is on the Left, Ash and Isabell are in the middle (Ash on top of Isabell) and Isabell is on the right. Both girls are believed to be approximately 1 year old.
**Ash and Isabell were adopted on April 20, 2006. I am sure they are going to love all the attention they will be getting in their new home in Pennsylvania!
Rico & Buddy Rico and Buddy came to ForCHINate Chins because their owner no longer had the time to give them that they deserve, as a result of the lack of time being spent with them, they began to fur chew (this is a nervous habit such as humans chewing their fingernails). They are now getting tons of attention and it seems as though their fur is starting to grow back. These boys are by no means shy!!! They are very lovable and love to be scratched on their chins. And, of course they love shredded wheat too!! Rico is a Standard Grey (pic on left) and Buddy (pic on right) is an Ebony.
**Rico and Buddy were adopted on April 28, 2006 and are now being spoiled in their new mansion like every chin should be! The attention they are getting in their new home is helping them to stop their fur chewing habit and their fur is growing back wonderfully. They were only here a short time, but we do miss them.
Chupa & Cheech Chupa and Cheech came to ForCHINate Chins in February of 2006 because their owner was allergic to their dust, she did all she could, but decided it would be best for them to come here where they can get the attention that they need and deserve. Cheech Cheech came to ForCHINate Chins along with Chupa, he was a little rough around the edges since he was not able to take regular dust baths, he was pretty matted and was in dire need of a wet bath (scary for a chin) as well as matts cut out of his fur, as you can tell by the before and after pictures (before is on the Left, after on the right) he is doing much better with every day that passes.
**Cheech is now in Michigan with Sally, the coordinator of the PHFR (Pet Homes for Ranchies). Sally took Cheech in temporarily and fell in love with him, so he will spend the remainder of his years in her loving care. He looks better every day!! Chupa Chupa had taken the lack of dustbaths a little better than Cheech and she is doing very good! She is such a sweet girl and loves her shredded wheat every night (she waits for it). She is really coming around and is starting to like to be petted. She needs a furever home where she will be loved and given the attention she needs! **Chupa was adopted on September 24, 2006 and is now in a loving home where she will get all the attention she wants!!
Butterball Butterball came to ForCHINate Chins because his previous owner did not have the time or space for him. He is a very sweet boy and loves his new big cage he is in now. He loves being petted and is very cute!! Butterball is approximately 4 years old.
7 Neglected Chins!! These 7 chins came to ForCHINate Chins on April 23, 2006 after they had been rescued by a responsible and caring chin owner who wanted to get them out of the horrible situation they were in, but could not keep them herself. We took these beautiful 7 bonded chins in and they are doing wonderfully!! They had no names, so we tried to match their personalities and faces to names that fit them. The males and females were all housed together in the same cages, so we separated them by sex as soon as they got here but there is a possibility that the girls are pregnant, so they will remain here until we know for sure. If any of the girls are pregnant, they will have their babies here and they will be available for adoption once they are ready to leave their mommies. We believe that all 7 chins are between the ages of 2 and 4. The Girls... Zoe & Penelope Zoe and Penelope are two very sweet girls!!! Zoe is on the Left and Penelope is on the right.
**Zoe & Penelope went to CHINtuition (a chinchilla rescue in Michigan) on August 16, 2006 to await their new forever homes. I will update any information as soon as it is received! **Zoe & Penelope are doing great at CHINtuition and have new names! They are now Agnes & Lavender. Arya Arya loves to get her nightly shredded wheat, and she wants it now, LOL!! **Arya was adopted on June 22, 2006. She now has a friend named Candy, they don't live in the same cage because they didn't get along as good at home as they did here, but they can talk to each other from afar!! Madeline **Madeline came to us with tumors on her belly, we believe that they were from being bred so many times, she has seen a vet and they said it was not life threatening. Madeline went to Michigan with Sally from the PHFR to get a second opinion from a vet there and is doing well. I'll update on Madeline as I get info about her and I will add a pic of her as soon as I get one! ***Madeline is doing great! Sally has decided to keep her, so she is now in her furever home!! Pic coming soon!!! The Boys Diego, Buster & Pokey Diego, Buster and Pokey came to us with the 4 girls on the new rescues page, they now have a clean bill of health and are ready for forever homes. These boys are exceptionally sweet and gentle and we love having them here. In the pictures below, Diego is on the left, Buster is in the middle, and pokey is on the right.
**Diego, Buster, & Pokey were adopted on September 23, 2006 and are now living happily in a huge chinchilla mansion in West Virginia!!

They are a bonded pair and love each other very much. Sneaker and Loafer are both Black Velvets. In the pictures below, Sneaker is on the left and Loafer is on the right.

She contacted me and we now have him here. He is a bit skittish, but very lovable, and with a little time, I really think he is going to be a very affectionate little boy! He is believed to be about 4 years old and is in great health.
Casey has found his furever home here with us!! He got along so well with our chin, Smokey that we could never split them up! They now live happily together here....forever!!
Charlie, Ollie & Babies (Skitter & Skatter) Charlie and Ollie came to ForCHINate Chins on June 8, 2006. Their previous owner (a 4 year old little girl who loved them very much) turned out to be severely allergic to them and just couldn't handle it anymore, so her grandma decided it would be best for them to come here with all the other chins! Charlie and Ollie were from a pet store who told them that they were both males, but it turns out that Charlie is a Female and of course she could be pregnant since they were living together in the same cage. We will keep her here until we are sure she that she is or is not pregnant, if she is, she will have her babies here and they will be available for adoption once they are ready to leave their mommy. Their birthday's are believed to be November 5, 2005. In the Pictures below, Charlie is on the left, and Ollie is on the right.
****Update**** Charlie was indeed pregnant!! She delivered 2 female kits on July 24, 2006. Their weights were 36 grams and 47 grams at birth. They are gaining weight like champs (as of August 8, 2006 they weighed in at 90 grams & 102 grams and are doing wonderfully! These girls will make someone great pets when they are old enough to go to furever homes!! Here are a couple pics of them at 1 day old: Baby 1 is on the left (the larger of the two) and baby 2 is on the right! I am trying to fit names to their personalities, so as soon as I come up with 2 names that fit, I will post them! Charlie and her babies will remain here until the babies are weaned and ready to go on their own, then all three will be made available for adoption. ****Update**** As of September 13, 2006 the kits weights are 237g and 285g, they are big girls now!! Whiskers Whiskers came to ForCHINate Chins in August of 2005 from the coordinator of the PHFR (Pet Homes For Ranchies) or he would have otherwise been pelted (killed for his fur). He got his name because when he got here, he had very little left of his whiskers (they were chewed off by his cage mate, but they have since grown back! Whiskers loves running on his wheel and sleeping in his hammock. **Whiskers was adopted on September 29, 2006 and is now living in his new home with his new friend Bloo! I'm sure they will have a wonderful time together!
4 Kits Whose Mommy Died (Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisey) These 4 cute little kits came to ForCHINate Chins on September 29, 2006, unfortunately, their mommy died a few weeks earlier. Their owner purchased the Mother chin and did now know, and was not told that she may be pregnant, then one day she went to play with her chin and WOW, there were 4 little babies running around the cage! When the kits were about 5 weeks old, their mom died unexpectantly, leaving these cute little babies alone and in need of care. It was a very hard decision for their owner to make to bring them here, but ultimately she decided it would be best for them. There are 2 beige kits (a male and a female) and 2 standard grey kits (a male and a female). Their weights as of October 2, 2006 (their 8 week birthday) were: Beige male: 148g, Beige female: 161g, Standard male: 172g, and Standard female: 147 g. They are a bit on the small side, but we'll get them caught up to where they should be in no time!!

She was taken in by them when a neighbor moved and could not take her with them, they love her very much and just want the best for her! She is a very curious chin and loves to take dust baths all the time, in fact, if we kept a bath in her cage, I don't think she'd ever get out of it. She is a very sweet girl and deserves a home that will love her as much as her previous family did. Chica was a fur chewer (she has chew spots on her hind legs) but since she has been here, she has stopped and her fur is now growing back!!!! Chica is approximately 5 1/2 years old. **Chica was adopted on November 1, 2006 and is now living with her forever friend! She will be spoiled rotten and has a very loving home!!

The girls are sweet and funny and LOVE to hop and jump on their ledges!! In the pictures below, Prescious is on the left, Sugar pie is in the middle, and Crazy is on the right. Aren't these girls beautiful!!!!

Chinchi is in pretty bad shape and is a severe neglect/abuse case, we believe he has malocclusion and will be taking him to the vet for x-rays to confirm. We pray that Chinchi does not have malo, but it seems that is the case.....please send out prayers to Chinchi and wish him luck at his vet visit!!!!!! **Update: Sadly, Chinchi did have Malocclusion and he didn't make it. Starlight Starlight came to ForCHINate Chins on July, 17, 2006. This sweet little girl was dumped along with a rabbit in a nearby playground and somehow managed to survive severely hot and humid Cleveland summer temperatures for over 12 hours! The people who found her didn't know what she was, they thought she was a rabbit as well, but the lady's daughter was quick to tell them that she was indeed a chinchilla. Hoping to find a home for her, she was left outside all day hiding under a slide. Later that day, they went back for her and took her home (the rabbit had already found a loving home) with them. After doing some research on chins (they had no idea that the heat and humidity could harm (even kill) her, the lady brought her in the house and called the APL (Animal Protection League) the next morning and they referred her to us. The family quickly fell in love with Starlight and would have loved to keep her, but their circumstances were not good at the moment (She was due to have a baby in the next couple weeks) so they brought her here! After a few good dustbaths, food, hay, and water, she is doing great and looks wonderful. She is such a sweetheart and likes to be petted. She is getting used to her new surroundings and looks forward to treat time!. Starlight got her name from the little girl, she thought it would be a good name for her since they took her in at night and all the stars were out. Since we have no history on Starlight and have no way of finding out, we will keep a close eye on her (just like the other chins that come in) for at least 30 days, then she will be made available for adoption. We also have no age for her, but I'm guessing around 2 or 3 years old. Starlight's pic is below--Just look how cute!!! Update: Starlight is an absolute doll and loves to just sit on our lap and watch TV!! **Starlight was adopted on March 2, 2007 and is now living in New York in her happy new home!!
Yoshi & Paco Yoshi and Paco came to ForCHINate Chins in July of 2005 from the coordinator of the PHFR (Pet Homes For Ranchies), or they would have otherwise been pelted (killed for their fur). These 2 boys are just beautiful and considering they have had limited human interaction, they are sweethearts. We are working with them every day and they are becoming more and more social.
